Yangchi Acupressure for Cold Hands and Feet | Eastern Wellness Approach

Many people notice that even during warm seasons, their hands and feet may still feel unusually cold. This common experience can be influenced by various factors, including lifestyle habits, prolonged exposure to cold environments, reduced physical activity, or spending too much time in air-conditioned spaces.

In traditional Eastern wellness practices, maintaining comfortable circulation and supporting the body’s natural balance are important parts of daily self-care. One commonly discussed acupressure point is Yangchi (SJ4), located on the back of the hand.

Yangchi is associated with the Triple Energizer meridian in traditional Chinese medicine. Gentle stimulation of this point is traditionally believed to support warmth, relaxation, and overall circulation comfort.

To locate the Yangchi point, turn the back of your hand upward and follow the area along the line of the ring finger toward the wrist. The point can be found in a small depression near the wrist joint. When gently pressed, you may notice a comfortable feeling of pressure or mild soreness.

For a simple self-care practice, use the middle finger of one hand to gently press the Yangchi point on the opposite hand. Apply comfortable pressure and massage in small circular motions. You can also gently rub the surrounding area on the back of the hand until it feels warm.

Many traditional wellness practitioners believe that gentle stimulation of Yangchi may help promote a feeling of warmth throughout the hands and feet. Making this practice part of a daily routine may provide a relaxing way to care for your body.

However, acupressure should be viewed as a complementary wellness practice rather than a replacement for medical treatment. If cold hands and feet are persistent, severe, or accompanied by other symptoms, it is important to consult a qualified healthcare professional.

In addition to acupressure, daily habits also matter. Avoid excessive exposure to cold environments, limit overuse of air conditioning, maintain regular meals, stay physically active, and choose balanced lifestyle habits to support overall wellness.

Small daily practices can become meaningful steps toward a healthier and more comfortable life.
